Village Tug of War Sunday 25th May

The Annual Tug of war

The Heydon Tug of war in an annual event organised by the Earle Arms together with other local pubs and villages. There are about six or seven teams and the beer and picnics on the village green are just as important as the tug of war itself.

The competition is a knock out and each round is decided by the best of three pulls. The teams change ends after each pull. Technique is as important as brute strength and over the years we’ve seen the female teams give the male teams some unexpected surprises.

Last year, the winning team included two members of the England Rugby Union team who live locally. They managed to win the competition with a rope in one hand and a beer in the other.
